Map Info
Twelve map slices of Paris, from the earliest available in 308 to modern day. The image grows in complexity as the city itself expands. Map years are shown in the corresponding border segments. Original is ink and illustration marker on watercolor paper, 20 x 26. Prints are available at full size, or scaled to traditional sizes for ease of framing.
Note: If printed in smaller sizes, words may not be readable.
Artist's Note
Other cities are older, but only Paris has continuous maps from the inception. Other major cities have an 800 year gap in existing maps, which makes equal distribution impossible. The dividing line at "midnight", as it were, is meant to be abrupt. "Tic Toc" is incorporated in the decorations around the lower border. Limitless growth is unsustainable, and time is running out.
