The Near Middle East, labeled with the oldest cities and the oldest names available without exhaustive research.  Design style based on mosaics inspired by Guy Gavriel Kay's novel Sailing to Sarantium. Original is ink and illustration marker on watercolor paper, 22 x 30.  Prints are available at full size, but also scaled down to traditional sizes for ease of framing.

Note: If printed in smaller sizes, words may not be readable.

  • Artist's Note

In Antiquity, the Near Middle East was called the Levant, the land where the sun rises.  This was the 5th and last time I swore I wouldn't do any more geometric borders.  I didn't stop, I just gave up pretending that I would.  I'm often asked if the border was made using a stamp, and I'm pleased to report that it is not.  The border pattern is all free hand.
