  • Map Info

A fictional medieval village; quaint, remote, tightly knit.  The main street out of town leads to a cross roads, guiding travelers to the left and right.  A small footpath, however, leads a determined traveler through a bog, through a forest, past the Remembrance Stones, and up stairs cut into the face of cliff.  Here lives the Bog Witch.  For coin or trade, she can provide basic medicines, potions, and advice.  Neither good nor evil, but still dangerous, she has always been atop the cliff.  Only strong need drives the villagers to make the difficult journey.  Should you vex the Witch too much, you may vanish out of all human experience, leaving only a new Remembrance Stone, as a warning to those who follow.

Original is ink and illustration marker on watercolor paper, 22 x 30. Prints are available at full size, as well as scaled down for ease of framing.

Note: If printed in smaller sizes, words may not be readable.

  • Artist's Note

It's me, I'm the Bog Witch.  This is my back-up back-up plan, if everything becomes too much, and Running Away To Sea is not an option for some reason.  I was drowning in self-loathing and shame because I had failed a test, and to distract myself, I built this place in my mind.  Researching small farmsteads, and what they can produce, was an interesting rabbit-hole.

A few items not labelled: The Remembrance Stones (small obelisks that appear to replace a human who vexed the witch too much), the pet bear (Horatio), two boas, several cats, and an Irish Wolfhound.  They all get along, because I bloody well say so.
